The Witch Wound and Our Health with Elizabeth Kipp

June 14, 2024

The 6th house in Astrology is not one of the most beloved by people, as it’s associated to Virgo and our day to day routines in our modern interpretation of the houses. It was also traditionally known as the place of Bad Fortune, where the malefic Mars rejoices. It’s a cadent house and has no aspects to the Ascendant, which is why it signifies a poor placement.

It was associated with illness, injuries, work, and slaves. So nowadays you can see it associated with employees or subordinates depending on your position in your own work, because it declines from the 7th which is a partnership on equal footing.

The 6th house is a good house to see the way in which a chart can show consistent themes, as well as specific activations of one theme, like hiring horror stories versus a chronic health condition.

The first house traditionally covered the body too, but it’s a configuration that tends to have fallen into disuse in modern times. Part of that is because of the way we approach the body as a topic, but of course in the case of the 6th house we see how our day to day actions prevent or remedy the bad stuff that the transit signifies. The houses below the horizon all have significations that are obviously tangible in the material.

Except maybe the ancestral stuff and the emotions as part of the 4th but with epigenetics I’d say that’s quite pragmatic too. And to mitigate the negativity of the 6th, there were plenty of situations for the ancients, such as aspects to the Midheaven. And that’s true of all planets to all angles, an aspect to the angles makes them more positive at least as of the 5th century. But again we can see the interpretations around health as preventative, since Mars has its joy there, so we have the problem-solving of a cadent house once more.

The modern significations are roughly the same, except that they are attributed to Virgo and its ruler Mercury. Being a detail-oriented sign, it’s a good combination for a house that governs the mundane and the day to day routines, many of which can be seen as underpinning health, but otherwise the connection seems a lot more tenuous than the traditional explanation I just ran through.

I had two guests to cover the 6th house themes. The first one was Elizabeth Kipp.
