This week on Starry Sky and Witchy Things I have the pleasure of introducing Margie Breault, for our conversation about the 4th house in Astrology and the important of healing the Imum Caelum (IC), which is the symbol of all of the baggage we carry from the past, including our ancestral line in our very DNA.
We are now into Summer, the next season of life, and in the quadrant of early adulthood and self-expression. And the 4th house is one of the so-called karmic placements, because not only signifies our living situation but also the environment of our growing up and the emotional baggage we carry from our ancestors through, quite literally, our DNA.
And it’s also the most hidden or private part of the chart, so it can also indicate things that are hidden or secret in one’s life, which is mostly seen as an 8th House topic in Modern Astrology because of the association with Pluto and Scorpio in the 12 Archetypes model. But if the Midheaven is the most public part of the chart, the peak of midday, then it stands to reason that Midnight represents the opposite, since all of Astrology is a polarity.
The 4th house is the domain of the IC, the lowest point of the sun’s journey which is technically the earth’s journey around it but you know we experience it as the sun doing the moving. It’s the midnight sun, the point where it’s clearly not evening anymore and clearly nowhere near dawn. It’s the darkest place inside of us, too, signifying our family of origin all the way through our ancestral line.
In Modern astrology it’s seen as signifying the mother because of the connection to the Moon through Cancer, and because of the things we associate to that archetype it also covers emotions and dreams and other themes that in my opinion are more Pisces (but also maybe because I have a water moon I can see as applying to the water signs across the board).
