Prospering on Purpose with Mary Gooden

May 3, 2024

This week on Starry Sky and Witchy Things, I’m sharing an empowering conversation with best-selling author Mary Gooden.

She was the perfect person to bring on to cover the themes of the 3rd house, which span from our immediate environment to our early childhood, siblings, commerce, and communication.

Her background is varied, one of those where you can see the red thread bringing things together for the most powerful transformation, and how leaders are truly made in the mud.

She shares my passion for being desire-led, and amplifying the stories of people driven by purpose. It was truly another meeting of souls that has me less and less sceptical about the idea we were all souls together in the other realm and decided we should find each other somehow down here.

The Third House in Astrology

The Third House is often shrouded in confusion due to the disparities between Traditional and Modern astrology interpretations.

In the life’s journey metaphor , the Third House represents our school years—a period encompassing siblings, short trips, education, and communication. And Modern astrology associates this house with Mercury and Gemini, extending its influence to commerce and communication in the digital age.

It’s a cadent house, suggesting a lesser degree of fertility and productivity compared to angular or succedent houses. Despite its perceived challenges, the Third House offers valuable insights into our external interactions and how we perceive ourselves through these experiences. It serves as a testing ground, where we navigate the ebb and flow of communication, education, and routine.

Historically, the Third House was associated with the Moon, earning it the title of “the place of the Goddess.” This connection underscores the significance of familial dynamics, early education, and community interactions within this house.

Challenges within the Third House prompt us to confront circumstantiality—a sense of being shaped by external factors beyond our control. Yet, this house also offers opportunities for growth and adaptation, especially in how we relate to our siblings and immediate surroundings.

Sextile aspects between the Third House and the First House highlight compatible elements and positive relational dynamics, emphasising the importance of community and shared experiences.

As we explore the themes of the Third House, we uncover the nuances of sibling relationships, the routines of daily life, and the impact of our immediate environment on our sense of self. It’s a reminder that while some aspects of our circumstances may be beyond our control, we have the power to shape our responses and perceptions.

Ultimately, the Third House invites us to embrace the challenges and opportunities of our surroundings, fostering resilience and self-awareness as we navigate the complexities of everyday life.

I believe words have the power to both hurt and heal, and the healing comes for both who tells the story and who hears it. That’s the most powerful thing about this episode, and I’m excited that you finally get to listen in on what we talked about.

We meander a little, but it’s all true to the spirit of the Third House.
